TOYTOY are making noise in Germany’s underground jazz scene. Their experimental power sound is inspired by beats from jazz, hip hop and generally the whole world. In their short existence as a band they have already released two albums with their own music and have started a concert series playing milestone albums of pop history in their own jazz versions. This series [rejazzed] is suprisingly successful, bringing not only jazz crowds into hip clubs all over Germany. The thing tying all this together is the special TOYTOY sound. Fat bass, virtuoso space guitar and a drum/percussion duo you’ll have to see to believe how they sound together. There are a bunch of curiosities along the way too, the drummer is also a rapper, bass and guitar get augmented through electronics and synths. Percussion doubles as a dub station with super trippy soundscapes. The end result sounds like an afternoon of J Dilla and Frank Zappa doing bong hits together.

Bei ihrem nächsten Album setzen TOYTOY ihre Flexibilität und Vielfalt in Szene. Wie der Titel „Alex Eckert Universe“ impliziert, beinhaltet dieses Programm ausschließlich neue Kompositionen des TOYTOY-Gitarristen. Alle Kompositionen sind beeinflusst von Konzertreisen und kulturellen Begegnungen die der Ausnahmemusiker zusammen mit seinen Mitspielern in den letzten Jahren machen durfte. Eckert hat es sich hier zur Aufgabe gemacht, die vielfältigen Individuen der TOYTOY Crew maximal wirksam in Szene zu setzen. Hierdurch wird auch - als Gegenpol zum Vorgängeralbum - der Kollektivcharakter der Band deutlich, denn TOYTOY hat sich für die LP Produktion viele illustre Gäste aus ihrem künstlerischen Umfeld eingeladen.
Außerdem unterscheidet sich die Entstehung des Albums grundlegend zur Debüt-LP. „Alex Eckert Universe“ ist über einen langen Zeitraum entstanden - in vielen einzelnen Sessions über das letzte Jahr. Der rote Faden ist auch hier wieder der ganz spezielle, raue TOYTOY-Sound und die überbordende Spielfreude der Band.
TOYTOY erweitert mit Eckerts Hilfe das Spielfeld auf universale Größe und etabliert ihre Art zu spielen somit kontinuierlich als universelle Sprache.
